Axel was taken aback by the sudden question. His head whipped to look at his friend, his eyes wide. “Wha-what?”

Roxas noticed that Axel was now looking at him, but he continued to stare forward. “We’re friends, and friends care for each other. Isn’t that the same thing as love? Because, if it is, then…” Roxas lowered his voice to just above a whisper, “then I think I love you.”

Axel was silent for a moment. “Well, I wouldn’t really know if it’s the same,” he replied tentatively, “I mean, we can’t really feel. And love is a feeling. So…I can’t really tell you.” He looked away, his mind jumbled up and confused. He didn’t understand what love is. I mean, he had some memories of what it felt like, but those were just memories. He didn’t think he could really identify love, even if he had to…

Roxas bowed his head, trying to hide the hurt he knew Axel would be able to read from his face. That wasn’t what he had hoped Axel would say. But really, what could Axel say. It was true that they didn’t have hearts, and Roxas didn’t even have any memories to go off of. Yet, he still knew that something was there, and not knowing what Axel would think made Roxas’s chest hurt.

He awkwardly took another bite of his almost completely melted ice cream. “Either way, I’m glad you’re my friend.”

Roxas wandered through the halls of the Castle that Never Was with a small…

Axel, wanting to save time and effort, opened another portal of darkness and stepped inside, emerging at their usual spot on top of the clock tower. He walked over to the edge, sitting down, one leg dangling off the side, the other pulled close to his chest.

Roxas sat down besides Axel, his legs hanging over the edge. He handed Axel one of the ice creams. He took a bite of his own, cringing slightly at the cold.

Axel quietly thanked him, taking the ice cream and biting into it as well. He stayed silent, watching the town below.

Roxas didn’t know why, but sitting up there with Axel felt…right, as if Roxas’s whole purpose was to eat sea-salt ice cream and watch the sunset with the red haired nobody. Roxas looked at Axel, smiling like a giddy school girl. He didn’t notice that his ice cream was starting to melt.

The red-head’s gaze wandered over to his friend sitting next to him. He chuckled and pointed at Roxas. “You’re ice cream is melting.”

Roxas blushed and turned his attention back to his ice cream. “Sorry,” he muttered.

Axel shrugged his shoulders, “Hey, s’not my food.” He then looked back down at the town, staring particularly at a group of what looked to be three teens.

Roxas followed Axel’s gaze and looked at the teens. They were running and laughing, and it made Roxas…jealous?

“Hey, Axel,” Roxas said, “we’re friends, right?”

“Hm?” He looked at his friend, and answered, “Of course we are.” A small smile appeared on his face.

Roxas was silent for a moment, then he said, “Do you love me?”

((I hope you’re okay. That must have been scary.))
((For the most part I’m fine, but yeah, it did give me a scare. My dad also has prohibited me from leaving my bed…pfff.))

((I haven’t gotten much sleep recently, so I’d love to be confined to my bed. But I do see the disadvantages of it.))
